A new book about the
Copenhavers is available: Book Summary:
The Copenhaver Family in the Revolutionary War, by Richard L.Thayer,
The Copenhaver family lived in Pennsylvania for 43 years before the start of
the Revolutionary War. At least 14 men with the name of Copenhaver (also
spelled Kopenheffer, Coppenhaver, Kopenhaver, Coppenhefer, Cuppeheffer,
Copenheifer, Cuppenheifer, Cuppeheffer, Cuppyheffer) fought during the war,
mostly in the local militia units. Numerous cousins, nephews and in-laws of
the family also served. This is a record of the military service in the
American Revolution of members of the Copenhaver Family who were direct
descendants of Wolfgang Koppenheffer, who immigrated to American in 1732
with his wife and 5 children and settled in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.
The first part of the book contains biographical sketches and narrative
accounts of military service. the second part is a genealogy section that
explains the family relationships. Related families include Orth, Kucher,
Smyser and others. The appendices comprise over 30 muster rolls and pension
applications, and are followed by an index.
A note from the Author:
"The Copenhaver Family in the Revolutionary War" is now available from
the publisher. It was published in May 2003 by Heritage Books, Inc. of
Bowie, Maryland. It contains 234 pages of information on 33 Copenhavers and
their in-laws who fought in the Revolutionary War. These men were mostly
from Pennsylvania, but some were from Virginia. They are all direct
descendants (with one exception) of Wolfgang Koppenheffer our original
immigrant ancestor. There is a fairly lengthy chapter on Captain Thomas
Kopenhaver (1739-1802) who was the progenitor of the Wythe County, Virginia
line. The book costs $23.00 and can be ordered from the publisher or its
distributor, Willow Bend Books, 65 East Main St, Westminster, Maryland
21157-5026. 1-800-876-6103
The book is limited printing and only a small number will be produced
initially and then more will be printed if the demand is sufficient. Due to
this printing strategy there may be some delay in receiving copies if the
publisher only prints sporadically. By the time of next years newsletter the
book will be surely be sold out of first printing, but if enough orders are
placed I am told they will print more.
